Udalguri College came into existence on the 20th August, 1979, as a result of the ceaseless and untiring efforts of the preparatory committee under the leadership of the founder principal Late Sailendra Nath Brahma. The primary aim of the establishment of the college was to provide opportunity to the economically weak and underprivileged people of the region. The college has been rendering valuable service to the cause of imparting higher education in the Udalguri area for the last 44 years. During its journey, it has created opportunities for the youths, giving them a sense of purpose and direction in the pursuit of their dreams. Starting as an Arts College in 1979, the college has now grown into a full-fledged two-stream college with Arts and Science, and honours courses in almost all the subject offered. Master degree course in Bodo has been started under Bodoland university. IGNOU also offers Master degree courses in some selected subjects. At the same time the college offers some vocational courses like stenography, BCA to the interested students.

The Department of Chemistry was established in 1995 with Mr. Jadabendra Roy as the founder Head. The department caters to the educational needs at both Higher Secondary (H.S.) and UG level. The department has been offering regular and honours courses for UG students under Gauhati University as well as Bodoland University. Presently, the department offers Major, Minor and other courses under Bodoland university following NEP, 2020 regulations. The department has a library with a good number of books. The department provides help and guidance to the students in Co-curricular activities including field study. The present head of the department is Mr. Jadabendra Roy. At present, the department comprises of four faculty members.
